Green in Higher Education: Energy Management

Three Philadelphia-based institutions that seem to have the most adaptable and most rapidly implementable programs are Temple University, University of Pennsylvania, and Drexel University. Each has a Sustainability Department with some level of authority in enforcing energy policy.

Arizona State LED Retrofit Saves $127,000 in Annual Costs

GREENandSAVE News — As part of its commitment to sustainable business practices, Arizona State University has switched out lighting in six parking lot structures with new light emitting diode (LED) lights. ASU expects to save as much as $127,000 annually in energy and maintenance costs from the lighting retrofit.

University Lighting Retrofit Saves On Utility Bills

GREENandSAVE News — A lighting retrofit in a University of Central Florida parking garage will yield $42,000 in annual savings, according to
Environmental Leader.

Approximately 500 lights will be replaced with new, more energy efficient lights, resulting in a 70 percent reduction in energy use for lighting, the article said. The new lights improve visibility for students and visitors, the university’s blog said.
