LED Lighting Initiative Lauded In Midwest Energy Awards

GREENandSAVE News — As part of utility-sponsored energy reduction program, The Kroger Co. recently partnered with Ameren Illinois Utilities to upgrade lighting in refrigerated cases in 39 of Kroger’s stores from fluorescent lights to light emitting diode (LED) lights. Ameren’s Act On Energy Business Program has been selected as a 2010 inspiring efficiency award winner by the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (MEEA).

Hewlett-Packard, Dell Top Newsweek’s 2009 Green Ranking

GREENandSAVE News — For the first time, Newsweek ranked the 500 largest U.S. corporations in terms of their greenness, or commitment to environmental, energy and conservation issues.

Newsweek spent the last year working with research firms KLD Research & Analytics, Trucost and CorporateRegister.com to evaluate companies’ usage, emissions, policies and reputation. Each category is then combined to give a green score for each company.

LED Lighting Retrofit to Save Local Pet Supply Store over $200,000

GREENandSAVE News — In an effort to cut costs without sparing quality or customer satisfaction, Braxton’s Animal Works, a 70-year old pet supply store, is switching out interior lighting in its Wayne, Pa., store with new light emitting diode (LED) lights. Braxton’s expects to save a total of about $200,000 in energy and maintenance costs as a result of the lighting retrofit.

American Airlines Lightens Energy Bill with Lighting Retrofit

GREENandSAVE News — American Airlines and Oncor Electric Delivery Company LLC are close to completing a project that will replace more that 1,600 incandescent lighting fixtures with new LED bulbs. The venture is set to completely retrofit two multi-story parking garages near the airline’s corporate headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas. The operation is one of the largest single installations of LED lighting in the United States, Oncor says.

Dole Attains 95% Energy Savings with Lighting Retrofit

GREENandSAVE News — By choosing to replace the lighting in one of its California-based cold storage warehouses with high efficiency lighting, Dole is poised to reap immense energy savings, while doubling the light level in the warehouse.

Albeo Technologies Inc., the manufacturer of the light emitting diode (LED) lights used in the lighting retrofit, said its C-Series High Bay fixtures were outfitted with motion sensors to provide Dole with 95% energy savings. The new lights replaced 400W metal halide fixtures.

Six Flags Hopes Going Green Will Help Them Stop Seeing Red

Sears Tower Gets $350 Million Greening

GREENandSAVE News — The tallest building in the Western hemisphere has energy savings on its agenda. Sears Tower in Chicago introduced a $350 million green renovation plan that will endow the building with wind turbines, solar panels, and roof gardens. The 5-year project will cut energy consumption by 80 percent and reduce water usage by 40 percent.
