Designtex’s 2010 footprint of 3,336 tons of CO2 will be directly reduced by an on-site LED lighting retrofit at its headquarters. Designtex partnered with LED Savings Solutions of Devon, Penn., to retrofit its New York City facility with LEDs (light-emitting diodes), which will save 71 percent of the energy used by traditional lighting. The Main Line Chamber of Commerce is currently recruiting members for its Go Green Committee. The committee is dedicated to exploring ways to improve energy efficiency and reduce environmental footprints. In one recent initiative by two members, the pet supply store Braxton’s Animal Works in Wayne was able to reduce its energy consumption by converting to LED lighting with the help of fellow chamber member Charlie Szoradi, president of GREENandSAVE.com. Dave Braxton invested $19,000 in converting to LED and has since netted $700 a month in electricity savings. That represents a 27-month return on the investment, which will likely accelerate when rate caps are eliminated at the end of the year.
